Mozambique's constitutional council will announce its verdict on the disputed election results on Monday. The council's verdict comes after widespread protests and unrest plunged the African nation into turmoil.

Ahead of the constitutional court's results, independent candidate Venancia Mondlane threatened to call a "popular uprising" if the election results were upheld.

On the other hand, South Korea secured their first win of the tournament with a 3-2 victory over China. Goals from Hyeonhong, Junghoo, and Jihun (55') clinched the win for their side.

The Mozambique presidential election results were declared on October 9, 2024, and another term for the ruling Frelimo Party.

According to the Election Commission, Daniel Chapo, the candidate for the Frelimo party, won 71 percent of the vote, compared to his opponent Mondlane who won 20 percent of the vote and was support by the Podemos party.

However, as per Mondlane, the results of the elections have been rigged in favour of the Frelimo party, which has been ruling over Mozambique for the past 49 years.

Following the results, Mondlane and the independent candidate's allies alleged that they should have 138 seats of 250, however, the result issued by the election commission declared 31 seats for the Podemos party.

Mondlane urged his supported to take to the streets, resulting in widespread unrest and protests.

As per Human Rights Watch, security forces cracked down in response to the protests, resulting in the death of at least 130 people due to the clashes. Hundreds more were left injured due to the clashes with police forces.

Along with this, protests became violent after the offices of the ruling Frelimo party were set on fire and the statue of former defence minister Alberto Chipande was pulled down.

Amid the unrest, Mondlane, who urged supporters to protest the resultsjb casino, fled the country and remains exiled in an unknown location. As per the opposition candidate, he fled due "avoid assassination."
